THE MATCH PLAY EVENT

The Battle Between Blue and White

The Play Schedule:

·         9-Hole Scramble Safari Matches (4 v 4) on Friday afternoon on the Retreat (3:30 PM start times)

·         9-Hole Scramble Safari Matches (4 v 4) on Saturday afternoon on the Revenge (3:30 PM start times)

·         Sunday Match Play (8:30 AM start times) on the Retreat

Team Selection:

The FIG Competition Committee ranks and assigns all players according to handicap. The Blue and White Teams have been selected by Team Captains, and equally matched by flight. The individual match teams have been constructed by the Team Captains, and the opponents are randomly assigned from the same flight combinations. Therefore, handicaps do not apply in match scoring.   The FIG Competition Committee has final approval over all match pairings.

The Format:

USGA rules are in effect, unless noted otherwise.

Scramble matches will be worth 2 points each

Sunday Match Play matches will be worth 1 point each

Super Seniors (Age 70 and over) are allowed to hit from the Forward tees.  Everyone else plays from the White tees, no exceptions.

The Evening Safari Scrambles:

Match play event consists of four-man scramble teams against each other in an eight-some, Blue vs White. Typical scramble format. Lowest score wins the hole for the team and most won holes determines the match.

The Sunday Match Play:

Match play event, Head to Head, Blue vs. White

The Prizes: 

Points won for the two evening matches, and the Sunday matches are combined for each Team, and the Team with the most points wins. It is very similar to the Ryder Cup!

Members of the winning team participate in a DRAW DOWN for valuable cash prizes, and earn the distinction of being The 2023 FIG Classic Match Play Champions.

THE MAIN EVENT

The Competition for FIG Cups

The Play Schedule: 

·         Friday AM at Manistee National on the Retreat (Shot Gun Start at 9:00 a.m.)

·         Saturday AM at Manistee National on the Revenge (Shot Gun Start at 9:00 a.m.)

The Play Format

Medal Play or Stroke Play USGA rules are in effect unless noted otherwise when you get to the course.

Gross prizes will be determined without applying handicaps. Net and Best Ball prizes will be determined by using handicaps.

Super Seniors (Age 70 and over) are allowed to hit from the Forward tees.  Everyone else plays from the White tees, no exceptions.

·         If a Super Senior plays from the Forward tees, they are ineligible to win any of the Gold/Silver/Crystal cups, or any flight awards.

·         They are still eligible to win Skins, Closest to the Pin, Long Drive, and the Father and Son Award

Prizes for Main Event:

The following exclusive awards are etched in history with the Winner’s names, and passed on from one winner to the next.

Gold Cup - Overall Low Gross

Silver Cup - Overall Low Net

Crystal - Low Gross Senior (60 years and older)

Father Son Trophy – Low Gross for any combination of Father/Son (son-in law, step-son, grandson)

Diamond Cup – Low Gross Youngster (under 30)

Flight Awards - Champ, Elm, Oak, and Maple

Two Man Best Ball Match (Friday):

Prizes awarded for best handicapped scores of the two players for each hole is totaled for team score.

Four-Man Best Ball Match (Saturday):

Prizes awarded for best handicapped score of the four players for each hole is totaled for team score.

Skins (Optional Participation $20):

Money prizes awarded all three days for lowest actual score on a hole (without handicap). If no skin is won on a day, the pot rolls over to the next day. If multiple skins are won in a day, then the pot is split among the winners. A hole-in-one or double eagle takes the pot for that day and eliminates all other skins.

Closest to the Pin:

Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin shots on one par three for both morning rounds.

Long Drive Contest:

Prizes will be awarded for the longest drive in the fairway on one designated hole each of the two rounds.
